Radon is a cancer causing radioactive gas. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. According to the EPA radon gas causes thousands of cancer deaths each year in the United States. Radon is believed to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States (1st is cigarette smoking). Radon gas is found practically everywhere and is caused by the breakdown of uranium in the soil and rocks. Radon gets in homes from the soil by entering through cracks and holes in foundations. The gas then gets trapped in your home and that's where the problem comes in. It is the repeated breathing of radon gas over a long period of time that increases the cancer risk.
